Banned Books Week Discussion: Octavia Butler’s Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation on October 10
This special one-off discussion is in celebration of Banned Books Week (October 4-10, 2026). Kindred continues to draw in new readers with its deep exploration of the violence and loss of humanity caused by slavery in the United States, and its complex and lasting impact on the present day.
October’s Open Book Club: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
Cemetery Walks at Floyd Cemetery on October 3
Beneath the quiet stones of Floyd Cemetery lie stories of lives cut short, secrets buried deep, and crimes that shook Sioux City. Join Sarah, Local History Librarian Specialist, for a one-hour walking tour through the cemetery, where you’ll visit the gravesites of crime victims and hear the true stories behind the investigations and headlines. Each stop reveals a life lost—and a chapter of Sioux City’s past. There will be TWO chances to attend this walk: 10 am and 4 pm. Both walks will be the same presentation.
1st Saturday Family Storytime: Silly Spooky Stories on October 3
Cackle, giggle, and howl at the Library! Together we’ll celebrate the season with stories and rhymes. Test your silliest skills on a scavenger hunt, and afterwards, decorate and take home your very own mini pumpkin!
StoryMoves Active Storytime: October 1 & 8
Build healthy habits while developing a love of reading in children. Led by students from Briar Cliff University’s Exercise and Health Sciences program, each session blends storytime with simple movement activities such as hopping, jumping, balancing, and playful games.
