Summer Reading Celebration on June 4
Jump start your summer of fun at the Library at this drop-in event! Sing and dance at the Family Karaoke Party, visit the Creation Stations to make seed bombs and more, go on a scavenger hunt, decorate a flower to add to the Library's mural, and much more! Plus, pick up your Summer Reading Starter Pack and sign up on the Beanstack App.
Baby Storytime on May 9
Join us for 20-minute early literacy experience just for the little ones (babies ages 0-12 months and their families)! Babies learn and engage with rhymes, songs, books, and bounces. Feel free to bring a blanket for you and baby to sit on the floor together (chairs available). Comfy clothes suggested. Free parking on weekends.
1st Saturday Family Storytime: How Does Your Garden Grow? on May 2
Explore the Library with friends from the garden! Read colorful stories, craft a paper nature crown, and search for hidden pollinators around the Library!
STEM Youth Events (Ages 4 – 12) on April 25
Get registered for these STEM-themed events (for Ages 4-12) happening at the Aalfs Downtown Library on Saturday, April 25. Ages 4-8 will explore concepts of balance with towers and bridges and Ages 9-12 will build remote-controlled hydraulic claws.
2026 Book Lovers’ Book Sale: April 23 to May 2
It’s the most wonderful time of year - Book Sale Time! The Book Sale will run from April 23 through May 2. This year's location is the also the location used last year, the former Chuck E Cheese site at the Southern Hills Mall. Park on the Barnes & Noble side of the mall and use the outside door to enter. This used Book Sale is a Friends of the Sioux City Public Library fundraiser. Proceeds enrich public library service in Sioux City, funding children's summer reading initiative and providing books, recordings, online resources, and more!
Seed Swap on April 11
On Saturday, April 11 from 1 to 3 pm, visit the Aalfs Downtown Library for a Seed Swap - Kickstart your garden with a visit to the Sioux City Public Library. We are giving away free flower seed packets to help our community bloom! Select up to 15 packets per person. Do you have seed to swap or share? Feel free to bring any seeds you’d like to share with members of the community.
