On Wednesday, March 25 join us for a video presentation: Memories of Five Nisei.

Video Summary: Five second-generation Japanese Americans share memories of their lives, with a focus on the World War II internment camp experience. The Nisei speakers, who are all in their 80s and 90s, will also compare their camp experiences with the detention centers in Texas for Central American refugees. This presentation was originally held at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles to a sold-out audience.

The film screening is part of Sioux City Reads, a community-wide reading initiative with the goal of bringing readers together around one book. The 2026 title is The River We Remember by William Kent Krueger. The River We Remember is a standalone historical mystery novel by William Kent Krueger, set in 1958 in Jewel, Minnesota. The story explores themes related the aftermath of World War II, all centered around the murder of a prominent citizen and the complex characters involved – including a Native American veteran and his Japanese wife.
