Build healthy habits while developing a love of reading in children. Led by students from Briar Cliff University’s Exercise and Health Sciences program, each session blends storytime with simple movement activities such as hopping, jumping, balancing, and playful games.  

*The same talk will be given at both events.

• Starting October 1, Look for clues on the Beanstack app (it’s the same one we use for our Summer Reading Program) or by joining the challenge at siouxcitylibrary.beanstack.org.

• Follow the clues to find codes at locations around Sioux City. Enter the codes in the Beanstack app.

• New codes added weekly: there will be 2 new codes available on Beanstack each week during October.

• Then visit the Refernce Desk on the upper level of Aalfs Downtown Library to trick-or-treat for your prize! Win books, merch, or a sweet treat. Collect all codes and prizes by Saturday, October 31.

Kids (ages 0-18) can log their reading and earn a prize just for registering and also when you hit your reading goal!

Ages 0-5 have a goal of reading (or having read to them) 30 books over the course of the month.

Ages 6-18 have a goal of reading 5 hours over the course of the month.

You can register for HALLOW-READ today and start earning badges and tracking your kid’s books/minutes through the end of the month (October 31). Kindred continues to draw in new readers with its deep exploration of the violence and loss of humanity caused by slavery in the United States, and its complex and lasting impact on the present day.

October’s title is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
