Take Charge—Use Your Card
To celebrate National Library Card Signup Month, September is Take Charge—Use Your Card month at the Sioux City Public Library. Visit any Library location and join the celebration that includes a variety of events and activities:
Win an iPad. Patrons who use the self-service checkout kiosks at The Wilbur Aalfs Library in September will be entered in a drawing for an iPad2 tablet (one checkout session per day per card). “The self-service kiosks really let people take charge of their library borrowing,” said Library Director Betsy Thompson. “Kids especially like to checkout their own books, and during September we are encouraging everyone to try it.”
Library Tech Talks, featuring how-to demos and one-on-one assistance using personal tech devices, are scheduled on Tuesday, September 11 from 6 to 7:30pm at the Morningside Branch Library, and Tuesday, September 25 from 6 to 7:30pm at The Wilbur Aalfs (Main) Library. Staff experts will field questions on any tech topic. To download Library eBooks or access any other Library database, bring your Library card, cables and devices.
Good Books, Good Times! answers the question “What do I read next” with a lively presentation on Saturday, September 15 from 10-11am at The Wilbur Aalfs Library. Explore the latest brain research on reading, along with what makes a book likeable and discussible.
Around the clock. Library staff routinely help users navigate the physical stacks as well as the updated Online Branch, www.siouxcitylibrary.org. Take Charge—Use Your Card works equally well after hours. With a full-service Library card anyone can connect to the Library’s catalog from any Internet computer in the world, day or night. Here, Library card-holders can browse for the newest additions, request items to be held, renew titles already checked out, download eBooks and music, and explore specialty databases covering everything from auto repair to zoology—even read full-text magazine and journal articles.
The celebration and self check drawing last all month; more programs are in the works. “Like” the Sioux City Public Library on Facebook and stay informed on news and events.
