October begins the second month of The Wilbur Aalfs Library interior renovation project.
By temporarily closing the building to foot traffic we shortened the construction time by half and lowered our construction costs. We are still functioning during this transition. Our public service staff continue to meet the needs of patrons by working the extended open hours at Branch Libraries and pulling up to 200 items per day from storage—titles requested by patrons for pick up at the Morningside and Perry Creek Branch locations.
We are answering phone and e-mail research requests, administrative staff balance normal work functions with the planning required in this time of transition, and cataloging staff continue to add new books and recordings—all from the lower level where temporarily housed materials are tucked into any crevice hidden from the construction dust.
