Pirates Invade the Library

It’s Pirate Week at the Sioux City Public Library, September 19-26, with programs, activities and fun for all ages. At The Wilbur Aalfs (Main) Library, kids and kids at heart can make a pirate hat, have their picture taken as a favorite pirate storybook character, and go on a pirate treasure hunt, Library style.

The free family fun includes two full-length pirate movies — one on Saturday, September 22, and another on Sunday, September 23, both at 2pm at The Wilbur Aalfs (Main) Library. Licensing requirements prohibit promoting the titles; individuals can visit any Sioux City Public Library location for details.

The popular read-to-me story dogs return to The Wilbur Aalfs Library this coming Saturday, September 22, dressed as pirates for the occasion. Each Saturday through December 1, from 2 to 3pm, children of all ages can read aloud to these gentle canine listeners from the S.T.A.R.S. K-9 organization.

Children in preschool through first grade, and their parents or grandparents, are invited to enjoy an evening of pirate tales and fun on Monday, September 24 beginning at 7pm at The Wilbur Aalfs (Main) Library. Pirate Storytime continues at 11:15am, Tuesday, September 25 at the Perry Creek branch and Wednesday, September 26 at 10:30am at the Morningside branch library.

In honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, September 19, the self-service checkout kiosks at The Wilbur Aalfs Library will include a talk like a pirate option. Anyone who uses self-check in September will be entered in a drawing for an iPad2.
