Library summer program rolls on
June may be winding down but our summer program sure isn't. You have plenty of time to finish—or to begin, if you haven’t already signed up. All it takes is four visits to the Library before July 31. Attend a special event, Storytime, or movie—or simply come to enjoy the Library, browse the collection and check out books. Just remember to bring your reading log and have it stamped. You’ll receive a small prize at each step, with your choice of a free book at the fourth visit (preschool-9th grade). And check out these coming attractions:
Dream Like a Scientist, presented by the Science Center of Iowa, will offer demonstrations of science principles and experiments for future scientists (grades K-5) at the Morningside Branch on Thursday, June 28. Free tickets are still available.
The Hunger Games, Library Style, is an after-hours activity for teens that will take place on Friday, June 29 at The Wilbur Aalfs Library. Teens in 7th to 10th grade will need their knowledge of the Library floor plan, computers or Internet, and the Hunger Games book itself to finish the challenge and survive our Hunger Games. Slots are filling up fast; call 255-2933 x 231 to register.
Tickets will be released Thursday for The Night Sky & Native American Legends, presented by the Sanford Museum and Planetarium on July 12. Children in kindergarten to 3rd grade will learn about the night sky as they hear Native American sky stories. Free tickets are available at all three Sioux City Library locations.
Encore programs (presented at the Main Library in June and repeated at the Morningside Branch in July) include the American Girl Program on July 9 and Legos @ the Library on July 13; pre-registration is required.
Regular weekly storytimes continue in the summer, and we also offer Adventures! for elementary-age children through July 30. Round out your summer with the Disney movie “Earth,” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks—plus an anime movie for the teens.
Dream Big-Read! and Own the Night continue through July 31st at Sioux City Public Library locations. For additional information, pick up a calendar on your next visit or access it online.
