One Book One Siouxland kickoff event brings the Orphan Train to life
Pippa White performs Saturday, February 22, at 2 p.m. at the Sioux City Public Library, 529 Pierce Street. She calls her productions “part theatre, part storytelling, part history.” Audiences call them unique, captivating, and touching. To date she has crisscrossed the country many times touring over 25 states, delighting audiences at colleges and universities, performing arts centers, museums, libraries, and festivals.
Pippa returns to the Library with “The Story of the Orphan Train,” to kick off the community-wide reading initiative One Book One Siouxland. Her previous engagement packed the house in 1998.
Entertainment wrapped in history interwoven with inspiration, this performance is based on actual Orphan Train riders’ accounts and sets the stage for readers of the 2014 One Book One Siouxland selection, The Orphan Train: A Novel by Christina Baker Kline. Funded by the Friends of the Sioux City Public Library, this event is free and open to all.
