New hours follow holiday weekend

All Library agencies will close for Memorial Day, Monday, May 28. The Wilbur Aalfs (Main) Library closes on Sundays for the summer beginning May 27. On June 1, new hours at Main will be Monday—Wednesday 9 am to 8 pm, and Thursday—Saturday 9 am to 5 pm. Also beginning June 1, new hours at the Morningside Branch Library will be Monday—Thursday 10 am to 8 pm, and Friday-Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. Hours at the Perry Creek Branch Library will not change. They are: Monday and Wednesday, Noon to 6 pm; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 11 am to 5 pm; and Saturday 11 am to 4 pm. We're sponsoring a free seminar for area grant writers from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Speaker Kief Schladweiler, Coordinator of Cooperating Collections with the Foundation Center, will lead the session in the Gleeson Room at The Wilbur Aalfs (Main) Library, 529 Pierce Street. Registration is required.

His presentation will include a demonstration of the Foundation Directory Online, the Foundation Center’s searchable database providing information on more than 91,000 grantmakers and more than a million grant records, and will provide an overview of their newest website,, specifically designed to meet the needs of grantseekers. He will offer tips on how best to identify funding sources for your organization, highlighting the electronic and print resources available for your free use at the Sioux City Public Library, a Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center.

Moms Night Out for STEM

Join us for Moms Night Out for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) on Monday, April 23 from 7-8 pm at the Morningside Branch Library. Guest presenters from Morningside College will use activities and demonstrations to show how math and science can be fun. The WITCC Lifelong Learning book club will discuss Fahrenheit 451 on Monday, April 16 beginning at 11:45 a.m. in the Wells Fargo Room L110, WITCC. Call 274-6404 to register; the $8 fee includes lunch.

Film screenings of the 1966 film starring Julie Christie and Oskar Werner will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. in Cargill Auditorium, WITCC. Margot Chesebro will lead discussions after each showing. There is no charge or registration for these films.
