Caldecott award winner announced

The American Library Association has awarded the 2012 Caldecott Medal to Chris Raschka for A Ball for Daisy. This medal is awarded annually to the illustrator of the "most distinguished American picture book for children, published in the United States, during the preceding year."

January tech talks

Library Tech Talks will be offered every Tuesday in January, from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Wilbur Aalfs Library (529 Pierce Street) in the new SNB conference room. Topics will include downloading Library ebooks and finding online tax forms. We'll demo the express check kiosks for anyone interested in self checkout. Drop in at your convenience for tips on how to use those new gadgets received over the holidays. For personal consultations, bring devices (handhelds, laptops and cables) and Library cards to the session. Parking is free after 6 pm.

Hours change at holiday break

The Sioux City Public Library branch libraries will close for the holiday at 5 p.m. Saturday, New Year’s Eve, through Monday, January 2nd; The Wilbur Aalfs (Main) Library remains closed for renovation.  Extended hours will end at this holiday break so that staff can return downtown and help ready the renovated Wilbur Aalfs Library for an early January reopening.

The Sioux City Public Library will showcase a powerful online database for small business owners on Tuesday, November 22. Drop by the Morningside Branch Library between 1 and 2:30 pm for a demo of the new and improved ReferenceUSA.

Making reading fun

In October the Library sponsored 34 programs for children, making ready fun for 701 children and adults.  That's more than one per day!  Half of those were storytimes outside the Library buildings at childcare centers and classrooms. 
     To instill a love of books and reading in the very young, Library staff offer two public storytimes each week. Through regular participation, children improve listening comprehension and develop social skills while building a foundation for reading. Our Family Storytime is a shared experience for children not yet in school and their parent/grandparent. Please join us:
